Hey there everyone, thank you so much for all the support! It's really uplifting to see so many people come together for something. I always said, motocross was a whole other world and everyone has really pulled together and stayed strong for me!
Ok, so let's get some of your questions answered shall we!
A lot of you want to know "Is it permanent?"
Probably so:/ I've only got to talk to my surgeon a little at the hospital. I'll be back January 5th at Memorial Herman to talk to them and have heart surgery #2. But so far they have said my spinal cord may take up to 18 months or so to fully heal. That includes all my damaged nerves. My T9-T11 were all fractured. T10 was crushed and is what caused the paralysis. They said I may get some sensation back but nothing is certtain. So I'm in a pretty cool lime green wheel chair right now to rep my Kawasaki love.
We already fixed my bike and sold it. I got to go up to the Kawasaki shop near us and kiss it goodbye. It was really a sad day saying bye to my baby.
Now the heart surgery and problems, they are also from my accident on Oct. 23. When I arrived at the hospital I had an anuerysm the size of an egg on my aorta artery. I'm very lucky it didn't rupture. It's actually a miracle. If it had, I wouldn't be here talking to all you wonderful people! So I had surgery and they put a stent(tube) in my artery to "patch" the aneurysm for now. I was at Scott & White last week and had a CT scan of my heart. Well the doctors called me before I even made it home saying that it appeared the stent was leaking. As in internal bleeding. So I've been back to the doctors trying to get my blood pressure down to decrease that. That's why my big open heart surgery is now going to be January 5th instead of the estimated 3 months from now. So I'm having to take it easy and not go wild right now:P
Ok, Injuries: Well I was life flighted to the hospital and arrived with both lungs collapsed, both scapulas fractured, both wrists sprained and a gash in my hand leading to 12 stitches. I had 5 broken ribs and a bruised spleen. Then I also had the 3 fractured vertabra and my sternum was fractured, along with the aneurysm to my heart. The doctors say the force of me hitting the tree slammed my heart into my sternum which cause both those injuries. Some how I was conscious through it all and I want to thank Joe O'Connor for sticking with me on the track until the copter got there! I can't thank you enough man.
I finally got out of the hospital Dec. 2nd.
Now as for the event some have spoken about, it was inspired by a facebook post I wrote. "This girl was once wrapped in a shell and she broke through to spread her wings. She soared high in the sky boasting boldly amongst the rest. Yet one day, just another day she was shot from the sky. Tumbling to the ground she crashed, but she rose up again. Broken wings with new found thoughts, she treads on lower grounds. A new view of things to show her the path and righteousness. Hope does not give up."
The events slogan is 'Hope Does Not Give Up'. My dad and I are hoping to raise around 25K through it to help with my medical costs. We are having an Auction/BBQ/Dance at Bell County Expo Center February 16th at 6pm-11pm. Tickets are $15 a person. You can purchase them at the door, Covington Real Estate or Monteith Abstract & Title in Belton or Temple TX. My father and I also will have tickets you can purchase from us. Donations for the auction are being accepted. All profits made from that go directly to me.
Donations are being taken at Scott & White Credit Union for Hayle S. Brown and at First State Banks in Temple or Belton. I believe my family is taking donations as well.
At the event we have the bands "Wild Horses" and "Touch of Class Band" playing for the dance. I'm trying to get as many people as I can to come and help out. So let all your friends and family know! I'll be glad to see yall there.
A lot of people are also asking "If you get the chance will you ride again?" My answer to that is HELL YEAH! Motocross is a passion I share with my father. I've always loved it and after every fall I always get back on. My friends say I'm crazy and fearless, but I'm just doing what I love.
Emil, the owner of 3palms, has been talking with Kawasaki to get them to cover part of the cost of a Teryx for me. It's a big sporty side by side. He also is trying to get a benefit race together for me to be held at 3 palms sometime possibly in January. I haven't heard much on that, but I'll keep yall posted and hope you make it out.
Today one of our local motorcyle shops called and they are giving us a trade deal on a Polaris RZR 900. Eventually my dad and I want to race in the Baja 500 within the next 2 years. If I can't be on 2 wheels, I'm going to 4. Racing is what I love, and I won't let a small little barrier block my way. My mom is scared to death and angry with my father and I about what has happend, but it's a dream I've always had and in my blood.
You can all follow me on Facebook- Hayle Shay, Belton, TX or stay posted on here. Feel free to ask whatever, I have no shame about this and I'm glad I've got a 2nd chance.
Thank you everyone
